Democracy at Home and Local Government: Lesson Plan

This Lesson Plan provides teachers with three activities that allow students to learn about the history of democracy in Canada. They will discuss how democracy affects their lives directly in the school community, their neighbourhood, and their country. This lesson also includes an opportunity for students to look at a country that does not function under a democracy as a way to compare and contrast life as a student under a democracy or a dictatorship. Students will engage in group discussion; expanding their knowledge of their local government; and critical thinking. A mini debate extension activity is provided.
